Our Story...

INFOFISH is an Intergovernmental Organization set up by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) to provide marketing information and technical advisory services for fishery products in the Asia Pacific Region and beyond. It is based in Kuala Lumpur and hosted by Malaysia since its inception in 1981.

INFOFISH has as its members: Bangladesh, Cambodia, Fiji, Kiribati, Malaysia, Maldives, Papua New Guinea, Philippines, and Thailand.

With over 40 years of active participation in fisheries and aquaculture development activities in the region and beyond, INFOFISH is a leading resource centre for expertise in various disciplines including fishing, aquaculture, post-harvest processing and quality assurance, market access, product and market diversification, and sustainable value chain development of aquatic food production systems. Its current mandate, as originally stipulated as well as required by the Member Countries from time to time, includes, inter alia, maximising the use of fishery resources in a sustainable manner and increasing export earnings with due consideration of environmental, social and governance aspects. In addition, through the decades, our international team of experts have continued to undertake training activities, market studies, and consultancy assignments as well as contribute towards global dialogue on issues that matter in the industry.

Our Focus

Trade Promotion

Provides market analysis, covering supply and demand trends, short and medium-term forecasts and prices in the major and potential markets worldwide.

Event Management

Organization of training, workshops, event, webinar, etc on the subjects mentioned above.

Technical Services

The Technical Advisory Service provides technical and related information and support on all aspects of fishing, aquaculture and post-harvest activities.

Product Development

Detailed in-depth studies on any of the above areas according to the requirement of the client, including feasibility studies, project reports, and pilot projects.

Publications

the long-lasting bimonthly magazine distributed globally since 1981, is also included as a complimentary copy to subscribers of the fortnightly INFOFISH Trade News.

Study Visits

Study visits to production areas/ countries to familiarize with local technology, advanced management systems etc.

FISH INFONetwork

INFOFISH is part of the FISH INFOnetwork of fish marketing and information services. The network was created in late 1970’s by the FAO (Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations) and includes:

GLOBEFISH (Italy) – GLOBEFISH is the unit within the FAO Fisheries and Aquaculture Department responsible for information and analysis of international fish trade and markets in Rome and is the coordinator of the FISH INFOnetwork

EUROFISH (Denmark) – Eurofish based in Copenhagen concentrates its activities primarily on Europe

INFOPECHE (Cote d’Ivoire) – Infopeche is the African Fisheries Information service and works from the office in Cote d’Ivoire.

INFOSA (Namibia) – The information service for Southern Africa is a sub-office of INFOPECHE in Namibia covering the SADC region.

INFOPESCA (Uruguay) – Infopesca based in Uruguay concentrates on the fisheries in Latin America.

INFOFISH (Malaysia) – Infofish covers Asia and the Pacific from its Headquarters in Malaysia.

INFOSAMAK (Morocco) – Infosamak, based in Morocco, provides information and assistance to Arab-speaking countries.

INFOYU (China) – Infoyu is a Chinese member of the FISH INFOnetwork with its base in Beijing.
