International Year of Artisanal Fisheries and Aquaculture (IYAFA) 2022: Celebrating diversity of small-scale fisheries and aquaculture in Asia
The International Year of Artisanal Fisheries and Aquaculture (IYAFA 2022) highlights the vital contributions of small-scale fishers and fish farmers across Asia. These local communities enhance regional food security, provide crucial nutrition, and sustain coastal economies through their rich cultural heritage and diverse traditional practices.
IYAFA 2022 promotes sustainable resource management, social inclusion, and resilient value chains. Empowering small-scale producers with equitable market access reinforces sustainable livelihoods while safeguarding marine and freshwater ecosystems for future generations.
Support for the global online SDG 14.4.1 capacity development workshop series
Led by the FAO, this initiative delivers virtual training to build global capacity for SDG Indicator 14.4.1. It equips national fisheries officials and analysts with standardized tools and methodologies to conduct accurate fish stock assessments.
By strengthening data collection across regions, the workshop series empowers member states to implement science-based policies, combat overfishing, and advance ocean sustainability under the UN 2030 Agenda.
