2020 INFOFISH 33rd Technical and Advisory Board Virtual Meeting

INFOFISH together with member countries and

associate members, held its first ever virtual Technical and Advisory Board meeting (TAB) on Tuesday 21st July. There were delegates from 10 member countries (Bangladesh, Fiji, Iran, Maldives, Malaysia, Pakistan, Philippines, Sri Lanka, Thailand) and observers from partner organizations (FAO, WorldFish, Network of Aquaculture Centers in Asia-Pacific, TIL Biosciences, Asian Institute of Technology) that were present online making up the total 39 participants.

The Chairman of INFOFISH Mr. Rizwan Ahmed, the Federal Secretary from the Ministry of Marine Affairs in Pakistan, in his opening address had said that INFOFISH has a role to play in avoiding the depletion of fish stocks that are either fully fished and overfished, in order to sustain for our future generation. He further stated that there is a need to develop more effective fisheries management frameworks, together with safer and more environmentally-friendly methods of production. He assured all the delegates that INFOFISH will continue to support the member countries in the development of fisheries sector in various ways

There were comprehensive presentations from FAO representative, Mr. Marcio Castro de Souza followed by the review of INFOFISH activities and work program for 2020/2021 by the Director of INFOFISH, Ms. Shirlene Anthonysamy. Thorough discussion followed pursuit from member countries. The TAB meeting will end on Wednesday 22nd July with the adoption of the 33rd INFOFISH Technical Advisory Board Report.
