JAPAN: Tuna is popular in the Kanto region

as a food for the New Year. Shipment has begun in earnest at a farm in Goto City, Nagasaki Prefecture this month, and approximately 40 to 50 kilograms of bluefin tuna that have grown up are being caught one after another. Packed on ice and sent to all parts of the country and lined up in department stores and other seafood shops.

"Tuna Dream Goto", a subsidiary of Toyota Tsucho Corp., in Tamanoura-cho, Goto City is engaged in "complete cultivation" that artificially cycles hatching, fry rearing and spawning. The company ships adult fish under the "Kindai Tuna" brand throughout the year, and sells juvenile yokowa to farmers throughout the country.

Shipments in December are 2-3 times that of other months. On the 10th, more than 40 bluefin tuna hatched in the summer of 2016 were landed.

Employees threw a bait with needles from a workboat next to the skewer and quickly drained, tightened nerves, removed internal organs, and chilled to preserve the freshness of the caught tuna.

The bluefin tuna company was awarded the highest award at the prefectural fair last year. Nakamura Kotatsu, Deputy Director (43), confidently said, "I'm constantly improving, and good tuna is growing every year. I like red meat that is colorful and rich in taste."
