Imports of whiteleg shrimp are down 62 percent in October

SOUTH KOREA: In October 2019, imports of frozen white-legged shrimp

(Litopenaeus vannamei) amounted to about 768 tons, down 62% percent from about 2,002 tons a year earlier.

At the end of October, the accumulated imports amounted to about 16,841 tons, up 22 percent from about 13,904 tons a year earlier.

In the last six years (2014--2019), the average import volume was 1,383 tons during October, a drop of about 44 percent is what the 768 tons recorded in October 2019 indicate.

The major exporters of frozen white-legged shrimp are Ecuador, Malaysia, Peru, Vietnam, Indonesia and Saudi Arabia.

In October 2019, about USD 5.33 million were imported in white shrimp, 62 % less than USD 14.14 million in the previous year, and the average import price in October was USD 6.94 / kilo, when the previous year USD 7.07 / kilo was paid on this same date.
