JAPAN: Tokyo’s world famous fish market Tsukiji is undergoing difficulties as a consequence of its inadequate air conditioning system to face the intense heatwave hitting Japan.
As a result, seafood wholesalers find it difficult to keep their fish fresh, a critical situation at present due to the unprecedented hot weather, AFP reported.
VIET NAM : Mekong Delta province of Đồng Tháp has issued identification numbers to ponds that breed tra fish under a government decree on aquaculture management that went into effect last July.
The ponds owned by 349 tra fish breeders in the province account for a 1,500-ha area that breeds tra fish, The Vietnam News reported.
FIJI: Pacific American Fish Company Inc. (PAFCO) has opened its USD 16.4 million new cold storage facility in Levuka, on the southeast coast of Ovalau Island.
This new facility will make it possible for the company to bolster its storage capacity as it will increase the amount of raw tuna it can hold from 3,000 to 4,000 metric tonnes.
The plant opening ceremony was attended by Prime Minister Josaia Voreqe Bainimarama, who pointed out that with this new facility PAFCO is expected to increase production by 10 per cent each year.
ECUADOR :Minister of Aquaculture and Fisheries Katuska Drouet toured the construction of the new automated plant in Durán for the production of shrimp balanced feed carried out by the multinational corporation Cargill and the Ecuadorian Naturisa.
The industrial facility requires a USD 60 million investment in infrastructure and equipment and is expected to come into operation in the last quarter of this year.
