Vietnamese Tuna Exports to China Up 253 per cent

VIETNAM - Appearing in the top 10 largest tuna importers of Vietnam in the late 2015, China is regarded as a potential importing market of Vietnamese tuna. In the first 3 months of this year, Vietnam's tuna exports to this market experienced a 3-digit growth, while those to others posted a year-on year decrease.

WORLDWIDE: A new report published by the International Institute for Sustainable Development (IISD) reveals that last year 23 million tonnes of sustainable certified fishing and aquaculture products were sold in the market, representing 14 per cent of world's production, compared to only 0.5 per cent almost a decade before.

ISSF and PNA agree to establish cooperation framework

UNITED STATES : The International Seafood Sustainability Foundation (ISSF) and the Parties to the Nauru Agreement (PNA) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) establishing a framework for mutual cooperation.
 
The three-year MOU will establish a mechanism for working more closely together on shared activities to promote the sustainability of tuna fisheries, as well ecologically healthy and productive marine ecosystems, in the Western and Central Pacific Ocean (WCPO).

Tuna sector contributes USD 42 billion annually to global economy

WORLDWIDE: A study released by The Pew Charitable Trusts has estimated that the tuna sector contributes more than USD 42 billion to the global economy annually.
 
According to the analysis report, called Netting Billions: A Global Valuation of Tuna, the amount paid to fishermen ranged from USD 10 billion to USD 12 billion a year, while the full value—including the total amount paid by the final consumer at supermarkets and restaurants around the world—was at least USD 42 billion in 2014.

Oil sardine catches record strong drop

INDIA : Overall marine fish landings experienced an annual decline of 5.3 per cent in India. Oil sardines (Sardinella longiceps) recorded the sharpest fall of 51 per cent owing to increased temperature, environmental stress, change in fish spawning and lack of food.
