Pacific fisheries patrol ensures fisheries rules are respected

NEW ZEALAND :The New Zealand Defence Force (NZDF) and the Ministry for Primary Industries (MPI) have just conducted maritime patrols in the Exclusive Economic Zones of Samoa and Tokelau as part of a programme to support Pacific neighbouring countries.

As part of the operations and with the participation of enforcement personnel from both island territories, 10 vessels were inspected without detecting any serious offending under their fisheries legislation.

Iconic Tsukiji market finally closed its doors

JAPAN: After 83 years in operation, the Tsukiji fish market was finally moved to a new site at the Toyosu waterfront area, an artificial island in Tokyo bay.

Tokyo's iconic market closed its doors on 6 October 2018, when the last tuna auction took place. The new market, which has a surface of 407,000 square metres, is scheduled to open on 11 October 2018.
