SRI LANKA: INFOFISH Ornamental Fish 2017,the 2nd International Ornamental Fish Trade and Technical Conference convened on 8th February 2017 at the Kingsbury Hotel, Colombo. The Ornamental Fish International Trade and Technical Conference is second in series jointly organized by INFOFISH, the National Aquaculture Development Authority of Sri Lanka (NAQDA), Ornamental Fish International (OFI), the Ministry of Fisheries & Aquatic Resources Development, the Ministry of Development Strategies and International Trade, Ministry of Primary Industries, the Live Fish Exporters Association in Sri Lanka following the success of the 1st Conference held here in Colombo in 2014.
The conference was graced by the Honorable Mahindra Amaraweera, Minister of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources Development witnessed by two other ministers; the Honorable Daya Gamage Minister of Primary Industries and the Honorable Dilip Wedaarachchi, State Minister of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources Development.
Sri Lanka has been chosen as the venue for the event for the 2nd time,in recognition of the its role as one of the pioneering country of global marine ornamental fish trade and also as key supplier of the freshwater ornamental fish to the global market.
The conference brought together more than 150 participants from 10 countries including the world major ornamental supplying nations, exporters, buyers, relevant trade organizations, government institutions and professionals etc.
Some 16 renowned international speakers will be speaking at the Conference, covering all the important aspects of the ornamental fish industry including trade and technology challenges, developments and innovations in breeding, rearing and feed technology; both in marine and freshwater ornamental fish sector: as well as the prevention and control of diseases.Some of the pressing global issues will include current and pending rules and regulations, environmental issues and the certifications.
A farm visit will take place to the Rambadagalla Ornamental Fish Breeding and Training Centre on 10th February, a day after conference.
